Living in Montreal
We love Montreal...and if you don’t already, we think you will! A northern light in the arts and gaming universe, Montreal is home to tons of culture, universities, entertainment, and has all the opportunities and comforts one could want. Hibernum is located in downtown Montreal, right in the Quartier des Spectacles, a fun and vibrant neighborhood full of festivals, art exhibits, concert venues and much more!
Montreal has one of the coolest, most diverse food scenes in North America. Here are tips from one of our in-house foodies: "Eater 38 is my bible when it comes to good eats in Montreal. I also love talking to our in-house chefs. They have the inside scoop on anything food related in the city. Montreal has its classics like Joe Beef or Pied de Cochon for meaty meals. I personally recommend Hotel Hermann, Vin Papillon, Manitoba and Lawrence for those looking for something new. Fine dining aside, anyone passing by Montreal needs to experience its 3 specialties: poutine, smoked meat and bagels. Each has its institution, respectively La Banquise, Schwartz’s and Fairmount/St-Viateur Bagel".
“I'm an old school rock guy with really diverse tastes, so it's great to live in a city that has thriving scenes in everything from EDM, to Punk, to Hip Hop. Some of my favorite concert venues are the Metropolis and the legendaryl Foufounes Électriques that have showcased various artists from Marianne Faithfull to Nirvana who played in front of 10 people there. There are many other places where you can just go out to listen to great live music while drinking impeccable micro-brews, like the Yer’Mad on Maisonneuve and Hurley's Irish Pub on Crescent. High points of my summers? The music festivals Montreal hosts every year, like the International Jazz Fest, Francopholies, and Heavy Montreal. Whether your favorite artist is a world reggae legend like Toots & The Maytals or a metal king like Metallica, Montreal is a must-visit city for the best music in the world.”
BECAUSE CHEAP RENT
It’s a fact: Montreal has some of the most affordable rents in Canada. Need convincing? Here’s what Naomie has to say: “The great thing about Montreal is that you don’t have to compromise on location to afford a great apartment. I could easily pay double the rent for my place in another city. The office is located downtown, and a 10-minute subway ride gets me to work. The cheap rent really allows me to enjoy the city and what it has to offer!"
“In Montreal, hockey is more than a sport-- it’s our religion! A Montrealer’s top 5 favorite sports are likely to be hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, and hockey. We talk about hockey 365 days a year. When the Montreal Canadiens play, you can feel the excitement throughout the city. Restaurants and sports bars are at full capacity with Habs fans. Nothing beats encouraging the Canadiens at the Bell Centre. The atmosphere is incredible, especially during playoffs. We hope to see the 25th Stanley Cup Parade on Sainte-Catherine Street. This year may be the one!”
Because Happy Hour
“I love living in a city where people go out after work to join friends for a “5 à 7”! My favorite places at the moment to grab a drink and snack after work include Ludger for their cocktails, Furco for the snacks and beautiful design, and Bar de Courcelle for a modest - not overpowering - hipster vibe. New places are constantly opening in my neighborhood. It's great to live somewhere where I have so many options that my favorites change all the time.”
